Just found a really great use of sidewiki. I have installed so many plugins on another website and had a hard time keeping track I have temporarily disabled them. I can now select the plugin tet and immediately add an annotation about it. It’s relatively secure since it takes admin privileges to see the page. I frankly don’t know what my alternative would be…

I also have sites where I want to annotate which plug ins worked on my other sites. I can now do this without going back and forth and only when I am ready to do just that.

Unless you are one of the big sites like CNN.com, Sidewiki can improve your traffic. For example, people may be blogging about their sidewiki entries through social networks.

Easter is far from being here (as of late Dic., 2009), but I can already see Easter eggs poping up all over sidewiki sites :)

Any suggestions how you might go about doing that?

    Community-developed screenwriting

Are you a screenwriter, an author, or a game developer?

Here a new way to develop your next blockbuster release.

Come up with a generic set of characters –one on each page. Give a general description of the character; mostly in terms of appearance, role, age, and so forth. Ask your sidewikinauts to find a character with whom they identify. At the bottom of the page ask questions about how they would react to certain stimuli, such as when they are angry or jealous, likes and dislikes…

Come up with a set of small scenarios where a conversation might take place between characters and ask your sidewikinauts to take the role of their characters and have them interact with each other. These are your scenes.

Finally, develop your plot and fill in the details with the outcome of the collective.

Ah. and don’t forget to give them credit –and buy me a beer (or two). We’ll see you on the tubes :)

“Write on this wall” side wiki

Those concerned about people messing up their sites with sidewikis might consider providing a page just for that…it works for those who just like to write graffiti on walls and might prevent some abuse….just a thought.

    Sidewiki and “dangling pointers”

This is an experiment that aims to test whether a sidewiki is disconnected once the content that it points to is removed from the page. First, I will write some text below, add a sidewiki comment to this page, and then insert more lines to see if the comment is still synchronized with the original pointer. First I have entries 1 through 4. I will comment on each one. I will then insert entry 2.1 and yet another to see if the lower comments moved downward. I will then delete the yet-another-entry to see if it went away.  The end of this post will give the result.

    entry 1
    entry 2
    entry 2.1
    entry 3
    entry 4

    Results:

    1) The insert did move the sidewiki comment. Good.  However, something weird happened when I selected entry 2 to enter my new sidewiki comment on the list item.  The comment kept floating towards the text I had written above! do a search on this post. Yes, that’s entry 2.1!  Notice I referred to the line to be deleted as yet-another because of this very anomally.

    2) The deletion did not delete the sidewiki, effectively causing a dangling pointer.  Google, I can almost see the reasoning about disabling “undos” for general comments.  However, this can’t be quite right if the whole idea is to keep context together.
